White clothes were traditionally an element of housekeeping. A personal commitment of women to their nature and to their role at the time.

You were as absorbed by her surroundings as she was by herself, since at the end of the day, she would wear her clean white nightgown, lie down on her white sheets, and rest her face on her white pillow. It was the moment when she was alone with herself.

This sense of the constant struggle for order, which subsided at the end of the day, illuminating the most personal moments, is what I attempt to convey in my series “The White Clothes”.

Having the need to play with the narrow boundaries of what is proper, I use the white clothes themselves (sheets, tablecloths) or I am inspired by their white color, or even the pink of the pillow – the washed-out blood, the hidden pain or shame – which came in a white case.
